  10.   The DDN MANAGEMENT BULLETIN is distributed online by the DDN Network
  11.   Information Center under DISA contract as a means of communicating
  12.   official policy, procedures and other information of concern to
  13.   management personnel at DDN facilities.  Back issues may be read
  14.   through the TACNEWS server ("@n" command at the TAC) or may be
  15.   obtained by FTP (or Kermit) from the NIC.DDN.MIL host [192.112.36.5]
  16.   using login="anonymous" and password="guest".  The pathname
  17.   for bulletins is ddn-news/ddn-mgt-bulletin-nn.txt (where "nn" is the
  18.   bulletin number).

  21.                       New 1-800 Dial-up Service Rates
  22.  
  23. The new rates ($.19 per minute) for 1-800 service is planned to take
  24. effect starting with the March 1993 billing cycle.  At the same time,
  25. the method for calculating per packet charges will change.  Simply put,
  26. the more you send the cheaper the cost, and sending during off-peak
  27. hours will also reduce the cost.  We would like to take this opportunity
  28. to remind our valued customers that with the increase in rates it would
  29. be in your best interest to take a hard look at the way you are presently
  30. using this service at your organizations.

  32. In the past, some customers would log on and stay logged on all day
  33. because it was convenient for them.  This practice wastes government
  34. resources and hinders other customers trying to accomplish their missions.
  35. It will now become very costly for your organization to continue this
  36. practice.

  38. Along the same lines, some customers used the 1-800 service even though a
  39. local TAC was available to them, once again, this practice will now become
  40. very costly for your organization.  Dial-up through a local TAC costs $.07
  41. per minute vs. the $.19 per minute for 1-800 service.

  43. We hope this information will help our customers endure the ever present
  44. budget concerns we all must face in these hard times.
